Recruitment Drive
The job posting uses HirePower’s applicant tracking system. They all do. A webpage displays a little white car poised to drive along a pixelated road dotted with cartoon landmarks, each one representing a step in the application process. In virtual, the environment is fully rendered in 3D. The road leads straight toward a blazing magenta sunset, and the edges of the simulated world disintegrate into the cyan gridwork of empty space.

It was a whole new drug species. One that didn’t need to be cooked up in a lab or smuggled across borders. One that cost nothing to make and was as effortless to distribute as pushing a holographic button.
